This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

I teach special need students in an Inclusion Kindergarten setting in North Carolina. Our school is a Title One campus and we serve a diverse population of low income families.

Our school has recycling bins through our building and that are emptied every Thursday by a wonderful group of special needs students. While students were empting the bin, one students asked me "Why do they take our paper storage box?" Since asking me that question, I want to teach my students more about recycling and our environment. I would like to add hands-on material about recycling. I want them to learn about how to keep our environment clean and safe.

Teaching my students how to recycle would impact families who may not already recycle material. Having books and theme boxes will enhance their learning about recycling. The students will also learn about the earth and its environment that will span the curriculum. The material would cover things like wood sample, rock experiments to recycling bins and sorting. My student will explore the natural world and learn how to protect it.

By funding this proposal, you are allowing 23 five year olds to learn about our natural environment, energy conservation, recycling and so much more. Thank you in advance for your interest and consideration by providing funds that is necessary for me to reach all student learners.
