Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students at our school have been through a traumatic experience. Not only have some of them lost their home and are displaced, but we also lost our home campus. We were housed on another campus for an entire semester, while our building was undergoing restoration. Not only did we move to another campus, but we also changed our school hours.
Although our Middle School students are resilient, they have lost so much.
Our school was one of the worst hit in Houston. Our students were in school for three days before Hurricane Harvey hit and did not return for three weeks. We have been back on our campus for about two months, but we still need supplies.
My Project
Our students and community have been through so much in dealing with the devastation of Hurricane Harvey. We are survivors and our kids are excited to be back on our campus. We would like to purchase different items that will engage our students during a College and Career Readiness Family Fun Night. Our students will be able to invite their parents to the school and have an entertaining evening.
It is very important that our students understand how important they are and that we truly appreciate them.
Having a family fun night on campus will give them the opportunity to engage in activities with other students and with the community. We will use the Dell laptops to play educational games at different stations. The inflatable Outdoor Projector will be used so the students can watch movies with their parents in our gymnasium. We will also use the oversized games to promote family bonding and community togetherness. These materials will definitely make a difference in rebuilding our community and making our students feel good about themselves and their school.
