My music students are amazing. They have overcome so many struggles already in their young lives and they are thriving. It's time that I give them greater opportunities to apply their musical knowledge! We do a unit on recorders every year with 4th and 5th graders. This unit helps solidify their music reading skills and apply musicality skills.
But what if students were able to synthesize all of these skills earlier?
I am excited to think of the ways my students could improve their musical skills even further in their elementary careers by starting recorders in third grade. The biggest problem is that some of them still have very tiny hands and they cannot cover the holes properly which creates great frustration. I also have several special needs older students who struggle to cover the holes.
Using the Nuvo recorders with covered holes will be a game changer. These recorders will allow students to experience greater success and remove barriers to learning.
There are always small items needed in the classroom such as tissues. Plus I am focusing on catching students doing the right thing by giving stamps throughout class.
