My Project

I plan to introduce my third graders to note reading, finger dexterity, and simple songs through the use of recorders. Recorder instruction is key to future band instruction, as well as an appreciation and love for how music works. Communal music making is a crucial art, and very much a part of recorder instruction. When students learn how to make music on their own, their self confidence grows, independence builds, and pride blossoms. There is power in connecting eye (musical notes) to ear (musical sound) to hands (musical fingerings) to soul (musical feel) and I believe recorder instruction can connect all of these domains.
