Our school is located in Queens, New York. We have a diverse population of students who learn, play, and interact with each other on a daily basis. Some of them are new to this country and are first learning the English Language, while others speak English but are still mastering it.
Socializing during recess time can be a challenge for our students, as it is with most children in this day and age of technology.
Between texting and gaming, children are spending less time talking and playing with each other outside of school time.
My Project
Recess should be a fun time for students to socialize and have fun. The park attached to our school is under construction and will not be completed for at least another school year. That means the children are unable to move around during recess, since we do not have empty open space for them in the school.
Our students need something to entertain them and keep them occupied during recess.
Board games and crafts are a perfect solution, allowing them to interact with their peers in a fun and safe way. These games will also help our students socialize with their peer and learn how to solve disagreements, something that many children these days need assistance with. Helping us on our way to having a nice supply of games and crafts for our students will truly rescue recess for over 800 students.
