My Project

The students at our school are some of the most loving scholars I have met in my career as an educator. All of our students want to enjoy playing at recess with their peers. Our classes can only play on the small playground or in the plaza with deflated balls. At recess, all of the choices for collaborative games will lead to better relationship building, problem solving, and positive interactions amongst scholars. The Kan Jam Disc Toss and Slammo games will help team building skills that are desperately needed not only in an elementary school setting, but around the world. Our students are just learning about sports and have exposure to games such as football, but have expressed interest in baseball. The Toss and Catch game will help our scholars increase control of their gross motor skills, communication skills with peers, and allow them to enjoy a game with a classmate they don't normally have a chance to build a relationship with. Scholars have expressed interest in games such as four square and the outline of the squares will surely help students play the game anywhere! Games such as these will help reduce the amount of disagreements or arguments among students during a part of their day that should be enjoyable. As they progress in their social skills, they will be able to do team and independent work to build sportsmanship and to be able to practice socialization. We will be able to take the games into the gym or out into the plaza during inclement weather days or sunny days. The recess games will play many roles in the lives of our scholars. We will directly link them to Second Step lessons to help build social skills and will use them to help increase positive peer building relationships.
