Recess Equipment in Need of TLC!

My students need a recess equipment storage cart to preserve, maintain, and organize equipment.

I teach physical education for grades third through fifth. Our student population is very diverse, with over 50 different languages spoken and over 500 students in the school. Our district is also classified as a high poverty area and currently has budget issues. During recess, there can be anywhere from 200-400 students out on the playground at a time in a 25 minute period.

Small trash cans, milk crates, and a rollaway garbage can is how we transport and store the recess equipment currently. As the photo shows, it can be difficult to filter out a particular object and get an activity set up quickly when it is stored as it currently is. The jump ropes are tangled together and it can often take the students the majority of their 25 minute recess to get a single rope untangled. Students have to dig into the large can to find the kickball or basketball to get the game started.

A recess (playground) storage cart would solve our problem and benefit the students for three major reasons. Equipment will be more accessible for them to take out and return, which will allow for additional activity time while at recess. The storage cart will also preserve the equipment for longer periods of time by limiting the wear and tear from the inappropriate current storage state. The equipment will be visible and evident to the supervisors of when it is need of repair, replacement or even just airing up a ball. The storage cart will be an asset to recess and will benefit the students. They deserve to use the equipment with pride and respect and also take on the responsibility of preserving the equipment for the students of the future.

Your donations will make it possible for students to maximize their 25 minutes of free time where they can explore the various activities and sports that are available at recess time. The students need your support to reinforce respect and responsibility for equipment. This recess cart will allow the students and supervisors to access the equipment quickly, preserve the equipment and be maintain the equipment so its use can be maximized.
