Recess Blues No More! Fitness Fun for Kids with Autism

My students need a variety of recess equipment, such as hula hoops, jump ropes, balls, and balance boards to provide them with fun fitness choices during recess!

My Students

While we know how important it is to play outside and exercise daily, it so hard to do - especially when a school lacks playground equipment. Added to that challenge, my students have autism, and struggle with social skills and the ability to communicate, and need additionally sensory stimulation.

My 13 students with autism attend recess with their typically developing peers in a low income, large urban community in Illinois.

During outdoor recess, there is a severe lack of playground equipment, and kids will often run back and forth for a bit, then get tired and sit down on the grass, or stand, looking up at the classroom windows.

My Project

What I am asking for is a variety of colorful, stimulating activities for my students to engage in while at recess with their general education classmates. The equipment will really get the kids moving, while having fun! This includes jump ropes, balls, hula hoops, balance boards, flying disks, and more!
