The students are already benefiting from having new, engaging tools to help them understand and manage their emotions. My students have been exploring their feelings for a long time, but they have experienced challenges in demonstrating compassion for others. I am able to service students quickly and all of the items are easily accessible. There is now a designated place for everything. When students come into my room they can see exactly what is available for them. I get so excited when new donations come in and I get to do an inventory refresh. My goal was to create a space that is welcoming and well organized. Your generous donations and the matching donations from Mazda North American Operations have helped to bring this goal to fruition. \r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the new space they were very excited and began looking through the coats and boots. Since the revamp of the space, they have also come to feel a sense of ownership over the space. Some students have even offered to help me restock items. Staff members were impressed with the organization of the new space. Just today a teacher stopped by and said, \"I didn't know we had a store in the school\". It's been nice to hear the positive feedback and see peoples' reactions to the STLS Superstore. The parents have also been impressed with everything that is offered to their children and the look of the space.\r\n\r\nThere is a lot of activity in the STLS Superstore. Students often come looking for socks and belts and coats. Now, they know exactly where to go in the room to find these items. This has also allowed me to house hygiene kits and feminine hygiene items discreetly instead of out in the open. This is especially important when students are in need of these items and may not be comfortable coming to get them. They now know their needs will be handled with care and it can be seen with how well the space is organized and cared for.\r\n\r\nAs I continue to receive donated Items for the store, I look forward to servicing more students. The work of an STLS Advocate extends the entire school year as I work in an area that is historically underfunded. Having the basic items students need to get to school and have a productive day is so important. It helps students to focus on learning and enjoying their school experience. I would like to thank you all again for helping me to decrease barriers for learning for our students at Oscar DePriest Elementary School.","fullyFundedDate":1736452778654,"projectUrl":"project/superstore-helping-those-in-need/9031531/","projectTitle":"Superstore... Our students here at DePriest were absolutely ecstatic to learn that our holiday show, \"Cool Yule,\" was slated for auditions in early November. Students in roles such as Scrooge and Santa were eager to learn that they had received top billing in the show. However, as rehearsals began to get underway, these two characters were in need of inspiration. Our Santa was doing a wonderful job rehearsing his lines and songs, but when he saw his Santa costume and tried it on, his character really came to life. \r\n\r\nAs the process for students trying on their costumes and props progressed, many of the cast members ran to my office. I served as the prop mistress and costume coordinator. I was just finishing up organizing the costumes and materials when they came in. \"Counselor Robinson, are those our reindeer ears?\" they asked. Next, the all male group wanted to find their sunglasses and props. Mrs. Dubose and I encouraged them to be careful with their props and not to break them. \r\n\r\nIn conclusion one of the reasons the \"Cool Yule\" program was so successful is because the students' characters really came to life once the students received their props. I was so proud of them for taking such good care of their clothes and props.
