This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

There is no doubt that having books in my classroom changes the perception in many students’ reading development. Even if creating a complete, useful and well-organized bilingual classroom library is difficult, this comfortable corner helps students to meet and exceed their reading goals away from technology. It is a crucial and important part of my classroom setting wherein students easily can identify books in both languages by using the color code bins.

By having color code bins green for Spanish and blue for English our classroom library will serve as crucial role in student development, providing necessary resources to build and maintain literacy levels in the language they choose to read, rising not only their reading levels but also their joy of physically having a book on their hands and staying away from technology.

As newcomers my students are special. most of them do not have access to books because of the poverty lines, meaning that their families cannot afford buying books and as a consequence my students lack the development of literacy skills at home. To ensure all students have an equal opportunity to read materials they need, a comfortable and inviting place to sit and enjoy a book is an absolutely vital resource in my classroom.
