Hooray! This project is fully funded

I teach Remedial Math in a mandated after-school program for 9th and 10th graders in the South Bronx. Ninety percent of students entering the 9th grade at my school are below grade level in Math and English. In addition, many students have learning disabilities or are English language learners. My students have trouble with basic mathematical concepts such as division, distance, rotation, negative numbers, fractions, decimals, and percents. In addition, they find algebra awfully confusing with all those letters and numbers. I would like to transform my Remedial Math course into a hands-on laboratory with a Lego Mindstorms educational robot. The students will re-visit the math topics that they have struggled with, but this time through team challenges to design, program, test, and build a robot to complete predetermined tasks. To get started I need a Lego Mindstorms Robot and Software. Through realistic activities, the kids will finally be able to see how math is used in the real world! In addition, they will be exposed to practical engineering and computer programming skills. Thank you for your consideration.
