This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I have the privilege of working with a highly diverse group of thoughtful and creative students. Our school is in the heart of Pittsburgh where one-third of our population are emergent multilingual learners who represent 18 countries and speak 14 different languages.
I am inspired every day by my students’ willingness to take risks in order to grow personally and as global citizens.
I am their teacher, but my students have taught me many lessons through their patience, persistence, and innovation.
My Project
Every student that I teach is a multilingual learner. Some of them have never been in school before, and we are on a journey together to learn how to read, write, listen, and speak in English.
The focus of this project is on providing hands on realia and experiences to help students make connections to our learning.
These materials will help my students make sense of our units and interact with the content and language simultaneously.
I chose them specifically for their tactile nature and visual supports. With your help, my students will continue to grow their love of learning!
