Help me give my students access to the Time for Kids reading materials on current events around the world so they can build empathy and understanding for the global community they belong to.
Our 5th graders are creative, hard-working, and fabulous at problem solving. Building relationships and recognizing the strengths in each other is a big part of our school culture. Our kids come from very diverse backgrounds and come with a wide variety of life experiences.
Our school is an arts integration school where kids get to dive deeply into the different performing and visual arts and learn to shine in many different ways.
Our program also focuses on building social and emotional learning into all we do and feel it is a vital part of each child's education.
My Project
Reading and learning about the world outside of our community helps students understand the bigger picture of how our world connects together. Using the Time for Kids magazines will help us build empathy in our 5th graders as well as build their reading skills. We will also be able to use these current events to inspire critical thinking through discussions and debates.
As an arts school, learning about other communities is important to inspire the arts work that we do.
These articles are always a great piece of inspiration to use for our dance, drama, and visual arts creations. Using Time for Kids in our classroom helps us to be sure that our kids are using their reading skills to make them better citizens with a global mindset.
