Each year, I am blessed with an amazing group of children, whom I learn from daily. They come in, each morning, with so much to share with the class and me. They are full of life and want to share that with everyone around them. At the beginning of the school year, my students enter second grade as shy first graders. However, when they leave for third grade they are strong, confident, and determined. Being part of this process is what makes teaching so beautiful.
My Project
In September, students return from summer vacation and need some time to get back in a routine. Students typically don't have the stamina to read for long periods of time on their own. Reading aloud to students is a great way to keep students engaged and work on making sure all students feel welcomed. The books that I have requested are books that work on students self esteem, getting along with one another, and biographies about real people they can connect with. These are all skills that we work on in second grade, throughout the year. Beginning the year off strong with great books will help get the students off to a great start!
