My kindergartners are full of enthusiasm, curiosity, affection, and joy! They are active, tactile learners and learn through play.
My students come from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Their families have roots all around the world: India, China, Japan, Mexico, Indonesia, Ethiopia, Sudan, Russia, and Italy are a sample of the cultures represented in my classroom. The majority speak a language other than English at home.
They enter kindergarten with a wide range of backgrounds and experiences, yet all are developing their language skills- from learning their letters and sounds, hearing and isolating individual sounds in words, developing their vocabulary, and practicing their listening and speaking skills.
My Project
This set of objects will be used in many engaging ways, as they give students real objects (not just pictures) to look at, touch, interact with, and pass around as we learn. English learners will expand their vocabulary as we talk about the objects, tell stories, pretend, and make connections to our learning. We will use these in both whole group and small group lessons, as well as with individual students needing greater intervention. We will use the objects to practice the sound each letter makes, listen for and produce the first sound heard in each of the words, segment the sounds, produce rhymes, and practice syllables. There are so many learning opportunities with these tubs!
