My students need a complete leveled reading library within our classroom, plus a mobile storage cart for the books, so that the students, parents, and teacher have resources to engage all children at their own reading level

My Students

My students are now discovering the excitement in knowing how to read.Their brains are growing fast and their imagination is ready to explode as they dive into the new world of knowing how t read books. They are ready for all different types of genres and challenges within their books.

My students are from a middle class demographic.

They are very active and curious about the world around them. They attend a very active community based school with parents that are actively involved with their kids. The students and parents place a high value on education. The school doesn't qualify for any additional funding for extra services or materials needed in classrooms. The students are just discovering the magic of reading ans seeing how it opens up a whole new world for them. The students are on many different learning levels with many different learning needs. Their teacher teaches to the learning needs of each child instead of the whole. Each child has a specific need in reading. The students and parents like to have their child be constantly challenged and learning according to each of their learning levels. Students enjoy supplemental activities at home to reinforce the learning taught at school. The students would greatly benefit from a leveled reading library.

My Project

If our classroom were able to receive a leveled reading library, the students would have books that would serve to every level of every child in the classroom. As a teacher I would be able to incorporate these leveled reading in my small group instruction to ensure I am meeting the reading needs to each individual student. This library could all serve as a resource for parents to use and check out to reinforce learning at home. Imagine a first grade advancing to chapter books instead being held to a three sentence book because there were no other resources to give. With the leveled reader library, each and every student could SOAR in their reading abilities and capture the absolute joy and satisfaction of reading a good book that meets their individual needs! Unfortunately as a teacher there are so many needs in the classroom and the more expensive ones just get put to the side based on cost rather then absolute necessity.

What a difference it would make to have a leveled reading library for all my students to learn and read from.
