Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have 21 excited Kindergarten students who have worked so hard since the beginning of the school year. They have learned to read many sight words and are reading small guided reading books each and every day. We have a special time in our day that they are reading to themselves, or reading with a partner. For many of my students this is their first school experience. They enter our classroom door each day excited to learn, ready to work with their peers and are young sponges ready for new adventures each day. Many of my students come from challenging homes and school is their safe place, the place they feel they can relax and learn. Each of my students has such a kind heart and love to work together, learn from each other and in a few short months have become great friends. It is my job to provide them with a top notch education, a place to feel safe and a place they feel cared for and given plenty of opportunities to learn. I have created that classroom and love seeing their smiling faces each day!
My Project
My students are 4 and 5 years old. They are active and little sponges at this age. They are ready to learn but still need time to move a bit, be comfortable and relax at times just enjoying a good book. My project will provide my students a variety of different types of seating to support their learning.
My kiddos would love to take their favorite book and a comfy cushion and find a spot in the classroom to read!
This project along with some needed storage for our books will provide that. Each child will be given their own book bin to keep their favorite books and books they are learning to read. I have also added specialized seating and move and sit cushions for those kiddos that need a little extra support during the entire school day. Several of the different seats I have requested will help many students with their focus during lessons.
