Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Kindergarten is a new adventure for my students who are experiencing school for the very first time! I have a class that is truly amazing that takes what life has given them and have learned to adapt. However, many do not have access to books at home. That is why I would love to build a classroom library that exposes them to books at their level here in the classroom.
My students attend a high poverty Title 1 school, where 100% of the students receive free lunch.
Despite challenging home lives, my students are eager and enthusiastic to learn. My students truly deserve the best that school can give. Help them soar!
My Project
My students need leveled books A-E so that they can enjoy literature at their level and feel successful with independent reading. During our English Language Arts block my students are divided into groups by their ability levels. Having high quality leveled readers available for them to read, will allow them to feel successful at reading and understand the process of reading a book.
Books are a way to escape and a great resource to expose my English Language Learner students to a whole new world of vocabulary!
My students often will read a book and pretend they are there. This is very special since many of them do not leave our community. Please help these kindergarten students get bit by the reading bug and allow them to dream of the future!
