Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are a very happy and enthusiastic group of first graders. We all have our own different sets of strengths and characteristics. Sometimes we have trouble finding the right words to use when we try to communicate to our friends and teachers. Our teachers help us find other ways to express ourselves, so we are happy in our school. We are also sensitive to all different sorts of things, and our teachers help us tolerate what the world gives us all while teaching us our ABC's and 123's! We all love each other and even help each other out the most we can (even if we do have trouble speaking). We love our school and everyone who helps us in life!
Our students are a fun-loving and happy group of preschoolers to second graders with autism.
We live in Newark, New Jersey, which is an urban city in north New Jersey. Our small school is educationally home to four special needs classrooms. Two pre-k disabled, and two kindergarten, first and second grade classes. We teach to each individual student all while joining in with the rest of our school!
My Project
Young students have a difficult time with emergent reading, especially students with autism. Having autism can hinder a child's ability to focus in school, at home, and even out at a store. They need all the help they can get to stay on task since their sensory needs are so overwhelming.
With the addition of noise cancelling headphones and the "hear myself" telephone tool to the classroom, it is my hope that our students can close out the outside world to focus on reading and other academic tasks!
With these sensory relievers I know my students will be able to succeed!
