My Students
Shared reading in Kindergarten is where the foundation is built. My students do not currently have access to high quality non-fiction and fiction books. The ones they are using currently are 20 years old!
My students are a great group of children. They are equally split 10 boys and 10 girls in the classroom. They live in rural areas. The school is a small school with 140 students in Kindergarten. The students need to be exposed to as many real life ideas as possible. Nonfiction books are a great way to develop schema in young children.
My Project
I am requesting books that will engage the students in authentic learning. They love nonfiction! What better way to teach them to read than to use things and ideas that they love and need to know about! We will be able to utilize these books to meet Common Core requirements and build a solid foundation for future learning. These books will be used as centerpieces for thematic units throughout the school year.
It is very important to reach students early with engaging materials that interest them. These books will allow my students to meet the objectives of Kindergarten and build a solid foundation for future learning. The donation of these books will increase student achievement through engagement and interest.
