This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are coming from a very low income section of the city. They however, are not short on enthusiasm and energy. Unfortunately our students are not performing well on the SOLs and therefore our school is lacking accreditation. My students also lack experiences outside of their neighborhood. Unfortunately coming from low income households causes many scholars to come to school lacking basic school supplies. I hope to ease that burden and get them off to a positive start to the new school year!
My Project
I have my students make interactive notebooks for each subject as we learned the material. The notebooks are great reference resources for the students when they are studying for a test or just having trouble remembering information we learned. We use a lot of glue sticks making these notebooks. My class also creates anchor charts as we learn new content. I am able to hang these charts throughout the classroom and they also are resources for students to refer to when they are having difficulty remembering information. My goal is to provide them with as many helpful resources in order for them to feel more confident about learning the material.
