Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

Currently, we are very short on recess equipment, and we conduct recess for 550 students. Right now, 2nd-8th grade share the equipment. The balls often disappear and get kicked off the property or on the roof while the children are playing, and when that happens, we don't have anything to replace it. It would be nice to have a supply to replace items or have customized recess bags separated by the grade levels outside. Right now, our recess equipment consists of 6 balls and endless jump ropes and hula hoops. So being fully equipped would make such a big difference with keeping games going and promoting more options of fun would be ideal for maintaining ongoing fun all school year long.

The goal is to have structure recess with options for all of our students.

With the equipment we have, I find it challenging to have students engaged. With these materials, I want to create a safe and fun environment for our students. I want it to be something our students look forward to.

What makes the JLS students so special is that they're resilient, lovable and bright children. They are entitled to an environment to be safe and free because its the only time that belongs to them. Our students deserve nothing but the best!
