My Students
My students are energetic and curious. My class is ready to engage with the fourth grade standards. My diverse group of urban students come to class with a thirst to know more and talk about what they know. The group enjoys bringing the learning into action and discussion. Our classroom composition is more than half second language learners in a school with 27 spoken languages! The students enjoy science, math and literature. The students want to create knowledge not just learn facts.
My Project
These class sets are pricey, but I find them invaluable to the quality of the students' learning. I find what the district provides for the students does not allow all students to engage with the same title. I wanted the opportunity to make the students excited about reading engaging texts and learning about story elements in an authentic way. There is so much that books can provide for the self, and I wanted to provide my students with the experience of interacting with all the aspects that quality literature provides such as building their vocabulary in a genuine manner, improving their communication skills, developing their social skills, and exposing them to fantasy text that they have not viewed on a screen.
