My students are amazing. My students are strong, smart and inventive. While all of the students at our school receive free breakfast and lunch, they all come to school excited about the possibilities of the day. They come to school hoping that they will get to use their creativity and energy to further their learning and help others to be better citizens. Despite their hardships, they bring their enthusiasm and curiosity to school hoping to be inspired to achieve great things.
My Project
My students learn to love reading books.
They feel it is important for the class behind them, the current 3rd graders, to love reading too!
So, they put together a list of books that will be favorites, guaranteed. Over the year our classroom library books have been damaged, lost or permanently borrowed.
My students also enjoyed making book reviews using paint and recycled materials. Sharing their favorite books in this way, creates even more excitement about reading.
As an incentive to read an improve their reading, students practice reading their books aloud and periodically have the opportunity to show their improvement by reading to the teacher. Students show off their reading success by earning beads to hang on their bead chains that hang in our room. Each bead and token on that chain reflect the learning and growing that has happened in our class.
