Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Ready, set, go! I want my students to experience the same thrill when they read as they do when they run a race or play a sport. What better way to accomplish that excitement than to give them the opportunity to play reading comprehension games?
My students are the most enthusiastic learners that you could ever meet.
Each day they come to school eager to learn. Most of them are second language learners; therefore, learning to read is somewhat challenging for them. Additionally, most of my students are from low income homes so they do not have the same resources available to advance their reading comprehension and fluency as other children might have.
I want my students to gain a love of reading so they can become lifelong readers. By joining together reading with games, students will realize that reading is fun!
My Project
My students will utilize the reading games, including Context Clues, Sequence Builder and Text Structure, during our intervention time each day. In this small group setting, students will be able to play the comprehension games to build their reading skills and fluency. Most importantly, they will be able to realize how much fun they can have while reading.
These reading games will certainly make a difference in the lives of my students.
By giving my students the opportunity to experience the enjoyment of reading, they can become more proficient readers and realize that not only is reading an essential part of their learning but it is also fun!
