My Students

I teach in a brand new K-6 elementary school that is part of a large school district. My students are fun first graders and eager to learn to read! They are unique because they are always helping each other academically or on the playground.

When students walk into my class they are reminded throughout the day that they are full of greatness.

They inspire me to be a better teacher and a better person, and I hope that in return I can inspire them to accomplish whatever they set their mind to.

Our district motto is "Every Learner, Every Day." This is something that I strive for because kids matter, and the experiences and how they feel in my classroom will continue on with them throughout their lives.

There is a buzz about books in my classroom! Students are provided with many opportunities to discuss what they are reading in small groups, large groups, and with reading buddies. The more books available for students, the greater the buzz becomes.

I teach future leaders so it's important to me that I work towards providing them with the best learning experiences possible!

My Project

Our new Superintendent has challenged teachers to create a “book-rich” environment in every classroom. Book access is a significant factor in literacy development. Research shows that students in classrooms with high-quality classroom libraries read 50 percent more than students who do not have access to a library in the classroom. Teachers are encouraged to be “choosy” about the books in a classroom library and to avoid purchasing every outdated and dog-eared book from yard sales. Students need to get excited about the books in the classroom library.

Having a high-quality classroom library would allow me to present and display books in enticing ways that encourage and prompt interest, dialogue, and thinking.

With a growing classroom library, the buzz about books in our classroom will bloom!
