Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students in my class have already began the shift towards the Common Core. We started this shift at the beginning of the school year in Math. We have slowly incorporated Common Core into our everyday English Language Arts as well.

I teach a Special Day Class and I serve 20 students daily.

The students I serve are between 1st and 5th grade and have a wide range of ability and varying disabilities such as Autism, Emotional Disturbance, Speech and Language Impairment, Intellectual Disability (Mental Retardation), Specific Learning Disability, Traumatic Brain Injury, and Other Health Impairment (ADHD). Because all of my students put forth the sincerest effort and consistently do try their hardest, I feel that they deserve only the best.

My Project

With this Common Core curriculum and hands-on materials, my students will be able to fully engage in the Common Core Standards. They will have the opportunity to maximize their learning experiences through the use of hands-on materials and I will be able to provide them with the most beneficial learning experiences possible. The Language Arts curriculum and materials will be used one-on-one and in both whole group and small group settings, to teach reading, writing, vocabulary and comprehension. The math curriculum, materials and manipulatives will also be used one-on-one and in both whole group and small group settings to teach subjects including geometry, multiplication, addition, number sense and beginning algebra. All materials and curricula will be used to address individual student need as a result of their disability, as well as to provide students access to the Common Core State Standards.

This curricula and these materials will improve the quality of learning that is happening every day in my classroom.

Students will have high quality curricula and learning experiences to match the high quality instruction and support that they are already receiving. Students will be able to engage on a deeper level and expand their understanding of subjects being taught through the use of hands-on materials and manipulatives.
