My Students

Maybe you remember back in the days when the main ways of communicating information was to write or maybe draw a picture. What a different world we live in! Technology has completely changed the way we present and record information.

My students are second graders in a small, public school in rural Iowa.

There is only one classroom of each grade. Over half our students would be considered below the poverty line, but that does not stop their desire to learn and apply technology in their learning.

My Project

My students are going to be responsible for recording their learning and reporting that learning to others. Student reporters will record things they find exciting in the classroom, and they will post those happenings on our classroom blog. They will also be able to record the many experiments and activities that go on in our room, such as presenting projects, hatching eggs, and growing plants. The Flip cameras are extremely fast and easy to use, allowing second graders to be in charge of recording with very little adult assistance. Two recorders allow us to record different parts of the room at the same time or to record the same happening from different angles.

Assessment in today's school must take many different forms, and Flip camcorders allow us one more way to assess student learning.

It also allows students to be in charge of their own assessment-how motivating for them! Recording classroom action for our class blog also allows students to share their education with their parents.
