My Kindergarteners are Title I School students. They are from low income homes. Because of their family zip codes and low income, they don't have the technology needed to set them up for success now or for the future.
Most have experienced trauma early in their lives, ranging from physical and mental abuse and/or have parents who are incarcerated and are therefore being raised by grandparents or foster parents.
Despite their challenges, they come to school with a thankful heart and an eagerness to learn. For this I'm thankful and proud of them.
They have a strong desire to learn and explore the world and have the potential but just need the opportunity.
Please help me to give my students the opportunity to achieve success and contribute to a thriving community, by adding the T to STEM in our classroom.
Children love to build and create, a skill necessary in the 21st Century and Beyond.
The Technology Station will provide my students with an opportunity to develop creative and innovative thinking.
One of the skills that I will teach, model, and practice for my children at our Technology Station, is the ability to independently and collaboratively problem-solve, draw, and write.
My kiddos will create a game on the iPad using the Kodable app. This activity will encourage them to work together in a team of two to create a game that they will then share with their classmates. They will have fun learning to think like a programmer as they learn and write real code!!!! - CREATIVITY & INNOVATION at it's finest. Who knows, our class just might have the next Steve Jobs or Bill Gates :) in the making. They will then present this to their classmates, promoting levels of confidence and being able to "sell" their idea. Their Game will be at our Technology Station for other students to enjoy and to share with our School during Assembly. This will allow them to collaborate, market, showcase their confidence, and present while learning the basics of computer programming at an early age.
Another way that I will use the IPAD is to supplement my Math, Reading and Writing Curriculum, aligned with the Oklahoma Standards - Letters, Sounds, Phonics, Sight Words, and the important skill of Writing.
Please help me provide my students with one IPAD to provide them with a differentiated learning experiences at our Technology Station. I have already purchased four from personal funds.
