A typical day in my classroom revolves around literature. Students are exposed to a rich, novel-based curriculum. My students work to answer higher-order thinking questions centered around each novel I teach. This exposure to rich literary pieces of text enables my students to grow intellectually from year to year.
My students are from diverse ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.
They are eager to read novels of interest to them. Our school provides our students with a rich educational foundation and prepares them for the challenges of high school by having them grapple with the novels I have selected. Novels that are of interest to students serve to teach psychology, geography, history, and English literacy, all in one additionally entertaining package. By providing students access to literature that I myself enjoy, I foster in each student a love of reading. In addition, these novels encourage students to grapple with themes that evoke passionate debates. My students can relate or see themselves in the characters they meet. Through this novel, students will learn about friendship, adventure and loyalty. They will think about their own culture and learn about the harm of stereotypes.
By obtaining essential personal hygiene products such as deodorant, a toothbrush and toothpaste, my students will feel more confident and comfortable in their school environment while also avoiding the painful and often shameful effects of not being able to obtain the essentials.
Through this grant, students will be provided with vital personal hygiene items.
This will enable them to focus in school. My students need the essentials and will hopefully obtain one of each of the following; 1 one full size deodorant stick, one toothbrush and one travel size tube of toothpaste. We are on our way to feeling confident in school!
