My students need vocabulary journals to complete a daily workstation activity, as well as grab and match quickies to expand their vocabulary to become better readers.
Do you remember having to read in front of the class and how it felt to not know a word? My students need to expand their vocabulary so they are successful readers.
I teach in an urban classroom with increasing class sizes.
My students are in the first grade and need special attention. They are excited to learn and embarrassed to fail in front of others like most people. By completing work in small groups that are self correcting they do not have to face that learning barrier. Many of my students are English Language Learners which is a reason vocabulary is a focus of need when developing my students reading skills.
My Project
These resources will allow them to create pictures to match words as they work in journals, it will help understand the meaning of words as they explore the difference between similar sounding words having different meanings. My students will use these activities in small groups that are guided instruction. We will use our resources to expand our vocabulary and these gifts will be used throughout the school year.
This project is important because it allows my students to complete with students in smaller school districts where funding is not an issue.
My students do not receive the support they need in regards to academics. This project will make learning meaningful and fun....which will inspire a lifelong love of learning.
