Our oversized picture books are finally visible. Our oversized non-fiction books are better cared for now that they are not sticking so far off of the regular shelves. \r\n\r\nDisplays are such an important part of library book promotion and circulation. Seeing the cover of a book, rather that just it's spine, really makes kids curious about the book. There is not a lot of display space in our library, so I have to be creative. These vertical front displays are driving engagement with some truly fantastic books.","fullyFundedDate":1769177788492,"projectUrl":"project/dont-hide-the-books/9882738/","projectTitle":"Don't Hide the Books!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Schmidt","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8178289_orig.png?crop=397,397,x0,y64&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1762534676788","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8178289"},{"teacherId":5875252,"projectId":10039473,"letterContent":"I want to extend my deepest gratitude for your generosity! \r\n\r\nStudents were so surprised and grateful to receive a small care package of items to help them with coping during difficult times. While many of my students previously struggled to access grade-level texts, these books allow them to engage with rich storylines while practicing essential skills such as making predictions, identifying key details, building vocabulary, and improving fluency. Because the content is interesting and relatable, students are more willing to take risks as readers and persist through challenges, which is something we work hard to build every day.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom has become a much more interactive and student-centered experience. You might see small groups gathered together discussing a chapter, students using graphic organizers to track characters and events, or partners taking turns reading aloud to build fluency and expression. We also pause frequently to ask questions, make connections, and reflect on what we've read. These routines help students not only understand the text but also develop a deeper love of reading and storytelling.\r\n\r\nSeveral students who were once reluctant readers are now some of the most excited participants during reading time. One student, in particular, who used to avoid books altogether now eagerly asks to take them home and share them with their family. Others are proudly finishing their first chapter books independently—something they once thought was out of reach. Seeing their excitement, confidence, and growth has been incredibly rewarding, and it would not have been possible without access to these engaging and accessible books.","fullyFundedDate":1767033927547,"projectUrl":"project/reading-connects-building-a-book-commun/9837805/","projectTitle":"Reading Connects: Building a Book Community","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Ferguson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp2876617_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1470009019398","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2876617"},{"teacherId":7062120,"projectId":9594261,"letterContent":"As we opened box after box full of things they didn't realize they needed. There were no Playstation systems and toys being pulled out, but headphones, noise canceling headphones and weighted blankets. Oh, the weighted blankets!\r\nWe had a few bumps getting the materials, so please excuse the delay in telling you how much we appreciate your kindness and generosity in starting our year out right. As expected, many students were not given headphones to use from home, and the ones you donated went right onto the ears of hard-working students and work got done! As the work got more difficult and the lessons moved from reviewing previously learned content to new, kids got squiggly and attention wandered. As student after student donned the noise canceling headphones and weighted blankets, the constant hum that filled the air quieted and the struggle became a mission. \r\nWhen you chose to donate to our classroom, I hope you believed that you were making a difference. I want to tell you that you have made a big difference. You have made it possible for a room of kids to quiet themselves, to calm their internal motor, and to get them learning.
