My Spanish Immersion third graders enjoy coming to school and are eager to learn. They are required to pass Read to Achieve in North Carolina, so my goal is to not only prepare them for their first year of standardized testing, but to help them to become lifelong bilingual readers and learners.
My school is a K-12 college preparatory charter school where we take P.R.I.D.E.
in all we do: Perseverance, Respect, Integrity, Driven to Excellence, and Empathy. All our students study Spanish K-12 and Art K-12. We also have many students involved in Lego League through Junior Engineers and First Robotics.
These books will make a difference in my students' lives by providing them with diverse stories that teach our school's core values: perseverance, respect, integrity, driven to excellence, and empathy. Creating lifelong readers who connect with characters through windows and mirrors is the ultimate gift of reading that I can give my students!
This diverse book collection will help students to think deeply about friendship, kindness, and making a difference in the lives of others.
The stories in this collection will guide our classroom meeting discussions about diversity and core values. The goal is for students to share their ideas with each other and to take action to make our school and world a beautiful place!
