My Project

I am the special education teacher for the entire first-grade in a low-income/high poverty Title I school in Delaware. Our students are faced with many challenges on a daily basis in and out of school. They come to school to work hard in an environment that embraces their learning challenges and helps them succeed.

Throughout the day, I teach our students to become independent thinkers who will do the right thing in challenging situations and persevere through difficulties.

My students support one another, creating an inviting learning community where they feel comfortable taking risks.

As a first grade special education teacher it is my job and passion to use the best and most current researched based teaching practices to help my students learn to read and write. I seek out materials that will help them achieve their learning goals in all academic areas with a focus on learning to read.

My project is for a teacher subscription to FoundationsA-Z. This site and it's use is built on the Science of Reading. Foundations A-Z delivers an explicit, research-based, K-5 foundational skills solution that integrates: Systematic, explicit instruction, Clearly modeled lessons, Embedded professional development and Engaging skill-building opportunities.
