My elementary school is in a rural community in Southern Indiana. We are a Title 1 school with many low-income families and students living in poverty. My third graders are the perfect age! They are eager to learn and old enough to be able to take on some responsibility with class projects.
I love getting a new class roster each August and seeing the names of siblings that I have had in the past!
My students and I look forward to the sense of community that our school provides.
Research shows that students need to be doing self-selected reading, or independent reading often! They should do it both at school and at home. The more they read, the more successful they can be personally and academically. I have worked hard to build a classroom library that all of my students will enjoy. It has a large variety of genres and styles of books to suit all types of personalities. Now, I need help building a comfortable environment where students can kick back and enjoy their favorite book!
This rug would provide a comfortable alternative to the traditional, hard desk.
Flexible seating is the craze right now because students need to be able to display movement and not be stuck at a desk all day. Having a nice classroom rug would allow my students to be able to read and work from a space on the floor as well.
