My students are magnificent students in Texas. My school is a Title I school where more than half my students are at risk for one reason or another. They work hard every day in ELA to create, understand, and excel in their everyday learning. Despite the hardships dealt with during Harvey, and being just miles away from Santa Fe shooting, my students are resilient, fast learners and are excited to come to school each day.
Still recovering from Hurricane Harvey, I want to ensure my students feel comfortable and at home while in my English class.
I am fortunate to teach 5th grade because this is a time students love reading, and my love for reading easily rubs off on them! My students are some of the most empathetic, creative, and socially responsible students that I have worked with.
My students currently receive 10 scholastic magazines. My largest class is 30, and instead of students sharing magazines I would like for them to have their own to access without running out. My students love to read, and always tell me how they enjoy the pictures, relevant stories, and videos that come with scholastic magazines.
Reading is important in the class, and it is even more important that students read something that they enjoy and can relate to.
Scholastic magazines make a difference everyday, and there is something that any student can relate to in the monthly subscriptions. My students still talk about the stories they read day to day!
