Reading Wildly and Widely

My students need a variety of leveled books to help their reading fluency and comprehension increase.

My Students

1st grade is not only an important year to develop readers, but to develop the love of reading.

My 1st grade students come from a variety of economic and cultural backgrounds.

Students feed into this neighborhood school from apartments, houses, and as English Language Learners from other schools. Many students primary language at home is not English.

My Project

With differing backgrounds and differing languages spoken at home, students often struggle to begin reading. It takes a lot of practice with letters, word patterns, and reading strategies for students to learn how to read. The leveled books I am requesting are at varying levels that will help students to fill successful and confident with whatever reading level they are currently on. These books will supply our grade level with multiple copies of books to use in guided reading instruction or with individuals. The text is also a mixture of fiction and non-fiction which not only helps students become better readers, but expands their knowledge as well.

With your help, 1st graders can be more proficient and confident in their reading abilities.

These texts provide students with books that they can connect to and get excited about. Thanks for your consideration in making today's learners excited about reading and learning!
