Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Have you ever allowed yourself to be moved or taken away by literature? My students have vowed to make a concerted effort to read as many books as possible this year in order to continue their reading enjoyment and development.

The subject I will be teaching this year is called Response to Intervention Reading, which entails teaching students who have struggled with reading, and other aspects of school, valuable life skills and allowing them an opportunity to receive the attention they need and deserve to get back to the level of their classmates.

My students are the disadvantaged youth who need as much help in the classroom as possible because their parents are usually too busy working and supporting the family to be able to.

My Project

My goal in this classroom is to individualize the attention placed on each student with various methods and readings. And to do this I need a wide selection of written works to inspire the kids I teach to understand and hopefully enjoy the wonderful and necessary act of reading. Being fresh out of college and new to the field of teaching, I unfortunately lack a necessary collection of Young Adult literature to accommodate the various levels of reading I will encounter. I would like to grow my library as much as possible, and I have a small start, but to truly reach these students I will need much more.

With these resources, my students will be able to gain the necessary knowledge and confidence to read and interpret written text.

This life skill is of the ultimate importance if these students are to succeed in any aspect of life. With the help of a variety of text, my students will take their education to another level and hopefully get out of my class and into upper level English classes as soon as they are able.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
