My Students

I work in a Title I School District. This means that the majority of my students are coming from a low economic background. I believe school should be their escape. It should be fun and a place where they learn that anything is possible! It is my goal to expose my students to the generosity of the world.

All of our students receive free breakfast and lunch daily.

To many, this is the only food they will see, and we as educators are the only love and support they will see as well.

My Project

I run a school wide reading tutoring program. Students who are in fourth and fifth grade work with kindergarten and first grade students during homeroom time. Students are trained at the beginning of the year how to work with their tut-tee and how to best support their needs. Students meet in the multipurpose room on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings. While eating breakfast they work together for 20-30 minutes learning sight words by sounding them out using icons on vowels to help read the word. There has been tremendous success with the program and teachers have students on a waiting list to enter the program.
