My Students
Fourth grade students are the best age group in elementary! They are old enough to understand what is important in life, but they are still young enough to maintain their innocence. My students are an amazing, diverse group of kids. They come from many backgrounds and bring various experiences to the classroom to teach each other.
My students have a strong desire to understand the world around them through their education and exposure to life outside the classroom.
I challenge them everyday to understand what I am teaching them, but also to go after school and keep asking questions, keep learning what you can.
I teach at a Title One school in Romulus, Michigan. My wing has three fourth grade classrooms. My students thrive when using technology and hands-on materials. They eagerly face each school day excited to see what their teacher has prepared to challenge and teach them!
My Project
When students are given a book and asked to read it, they often skim the pages and look through the book, but don't really read each page or completely understand the material.
When we read books together as a class, all the students are involved in the story, creating a sense of community and potentially creating a love for reading.
Reading a book as a class, works well because students are able to ask questions when they don't understand and I'm able to inject even more information than the book may have provided. I use several books each year to get students reading and would love to add this Judy Blume classic to my teacher toolbox.
