Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from a wide range of cultural and economical structures. My classroom is a blended community of bilingual students, low income, and middle class families, students with special needs, and students who are TAG. This makes differentiation crucial to their learning experience and also brings a multitude of lenses to our lessons.
My students love hands-on learning experiences where they get to apply what they've learned in class and make it relevant to their world around them.
They aren't afraid to ask questions and take risks because they know our classroom is a safe place to do so.
My Project
I am asking for a variety of informational and narrative books in order to help my students during the writing process.
Mentor texts are important in helping students to see models of the writing styles we are learning to write as we write them.
I have listed a variety of classic narratives like Thank You, Mr. Falker by Patricia Polacco and various science books such as the National Geographic for Kids collection that I feel my students' writing would benefit greatly from.
My goal is to give my students access to exemplary books that model both crafts (informational and narrative) so that they may create their own unique pieces while staying true to the craft.
