This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Do you remember what it was like the first time you read a book and couldn't put it down? This is the feeling I am trying to instill in my second graders. They have not yet discovered books that capture their imaginations and help them escape their everyday stresses.
My second grade students attend a K-8 charter school in Minnesota.
They come from low-economic backgrounds and were recently devastated by a tornado this past year. With the everyday stresses my students go through, an outside would never know what they have been through because of their positive attitude, bright, wide smiles, and willingness to learn.
My Project
The literature books I am requesting will help my second grade students expand their imaginations and escape everyday stresses. I have chosen books that I believe they are interested in and will love reading over and over. Big books are a huge hit with second grade students along with books on CD for my low readers who are just beginning to read complete sentences.
This donation will make a great impact on my second grade students as they find and grow with a love for reading.
In a cozy reading area they will be able to tap into their imagination and grow individually as successful readers while finding enjoyment in reading. Making a difference can happen at any age. I believe finding the love for reading at the youngest age possible makes not only for a life long learner but also instills the love of reading.
