Reading to Learn Math, Science, and Social Studies!

Help me give my students books to help reinforce our Math, Science, and Social Studies lessons. Also, a document camera to help work lesson pages together and to use to project the books for all to see them.

My Students

My students are full of personality. Coming from a variety of home lives, my students walk in each morning with a love for learning! Teaching seven and eight year olds requires me to create opportunities for them to play educational games, get their hands dirty, and have fun while they learn.

I teach Math, Science and Social Studies to two classes of second graders.

My teaching partner teaches ELA to both classes. We work in a Title I school that has a large population of students who qualify for our free or reduced-cost lunch program.

My Project

For the first year, I am teaching two classes of 2nd Graders Math, Science, and Social Studies. Even though I don't teach them reading, I want to reinforce the importance of reading by reading to them and with them books that support our Math, Science, and Social Studies lessons.

A lot of times my children view reading as something only my teaching partner teaches.

However, reading is something that bleeds over into all aspects of life. Math, Science, and Social Studies require the ability to read and comprehend.

We are also in need of a document camera to help us work together on parts of our lessons. The document camera would also be handy for reading and being able to project the pages on the board for all to see well.
