Reading Through The STEAM

My students need a vast array of subject specific reading material.

My Students

My STEAM Classroom is a place of challenge and discovery. My hope for each of my students is that they will leave my classroom better than they entered it-I want them to grow not only as learners but also as human beings. Bearing that in mind, I make it my goal (every year) to improve my teaching methods and to find new/creative ways to ensure that my students have a foundation of knowledge and skills that will help them advance and thrive in the real world that awaits them after high school.

The majority of my students are Juniors and Seniors, all hailing from rural Texas.

Our geographical location is (in many ways) ideal, but it does make it difficult to offer my students the same experiences as some of their peers who come from larger areas.

Because we now live in a world driven by global exchange, I believe that now (more than ever) it is imperative that my students have access to a wealth of subject related reading material. These types of literature experiences will ensure that my kiddos can do more than compete in the work force of tomorrow-they will allow them to thrive.

My Project

The selected reading material will be used in my classroom to supplement instruction and broaden the depth of my student's learning. It is imperative that classrooms adjust to meet the needs of their students, and while it might seem crazy to assign reading in a science class, it is absolutely vital for life long learning.

Having these books in my STEAM library will mean that every child who walks through my door has access to a number of different reading experiences, and thus, has the opportunity to expand their knowledge of the world around them.

Arming kids with the background knowledge they will need to be successful human beings in the future is the most important thing educators can do for their students.
