My students need picture books to take them on adventures all over the world, inspire them to be anyone, and teach them valuable lessons like kindness and compassion to others.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"Students will read if we give them the books, the time, and the enthusiastic encouragement to do so." ~Donalyn Miller
My classroom is filled with 23 third graders who are excited to explore and learn about the world around them.
Every student has different interests, different backgrounds, and different learning needs. One thing that brings them all together is their love of learning and exploring. Our diversity allows us to learn not only from the curriculum but from each other, making every experience and every day a learning opportunity. As eager third graders, the world is ever changing around them. I am here to give them the tools and experiences they need to succeed both in and out of the classroom.
My Project
As a teacher, the greatest gift I can give to my students is the love of reading. The easiest way to do this is to make reading a positive and memorable experience while creating a community of readers who explore a variety of genres and authors. Picture books give me the opportunity to expose them to these genres, authors, and create a community. I can already see them all lying on the carpet waiting for the "Book of the Day". Ready to find out - Where are we going to travel to? Who are we going to meet? What feelings are the characters having that we have too? How did they solve the problem?
Adding these picture books to our classroom library, and daily reading adventure, will expose my students to different jobs, heroes, stories of kindness, and adventure, while giving us the chance to talk about reading.
It will help some readers feel more confident, while helping other readers practice deeper thinking. It will make one student feel like they are not alone, while helping another student see the struggles of other. They will tell others that they can do anything they put their mind too and get another thinking about how to work through a difficult time. These picture books will spread love and kindness.
A donation to this project will help my students see the world outside of their home and inspire them to start their own stories and adventures.
