Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are from the exciting world of Kindergarten. I have twenty-six wonderful students in my class. Fifteen of them are second language learners and one has special needs. All of my students are from low-income homes and the majority of the parents do not speak English.
My classroom is a busy, child-centered learning environment.
It is a home away from home for some of my students. My classroom is a safe, colorful, and stimulating place made up of a community of young exciting minds. My students come to school everyday eager to learn. My lessons may require that we function as a whole group, small groups, or as individuals. My students and I cooperate and collaborate well together. We share materials, discoveries, and our experiences. We model respect for one another and ourselves. The students display enthusiasm and excitement with each new lesson. They listen and learn every moment throughout the day despite language barriers. I love that each student has made a commitment and determination to work hard and give their best daily. My students like to sing and dance. They love to draw and paint and everyday is new and exciting day.
My Project
This Little Readers Library Set will help build my students reading skill. I will use these books during my guided reading block and free exploration time. The books will help the students to decode CVC words and build comprehension as they read. The students will also have the opportunity to take the books home so they can practice reading with their parents.
The math manipulatives will also be utilize by all the students in the classroom to build counting and number sense during small group math centers.
All manipulatives will build their counting and number sense which will lead to addition and subtraction concepts.
