Reading Rug

My students need a soft rug to come to for our reading lessons and reading time. This rug - with the alphabet on it to support children's literacy thinking, is just the answer!

My Students

Everyday we have a reading lesson where students are called to the back reading area. Students sit on the floor for these mini lessons. Having a rug would provide a cozier spot for students to settle in for reading lessons or their favorite thing - read alouds!

My school is a Title I school, and many of my students live in high poverty situations.

Nearly all of my students began second grade reading a year or more below grade level. They are making great gains, but keeping this momentum will play an integral part in their ability to succeed in subsequent grades. A strong base in reading will play a critical role in setting my students up for success in years to come.

My Project

Students will enjoy the comfort of this cozy, bright, and cheery reading rug everyday during our reading mini lessons and/or read alouds. The rug will also aid in transitioning to reading time by allowing me to call students to the back reading rug. Additionally, after mini lessons or read alouds, this rug will provide a cozier reading nook area where students can settle in to enjoy their favorite book and work on critical reading skills.

This rug will help to make our reading time more comfortable and cozy.

I believe that with the right atmosphere, reading can become a time of quiet, creative, contemplative exploration for my students to dive into their curiosities about the world around us as they read books that can transport them wherever they want! This rug will help create positive associations with reading for my students by allowing them to find the comfort and quiet they need to become the strong readers they innately are.
