Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Most of what we really need to know about how to live, what to do, and how to be, we learned in kindergarten. Wisdom did not lie at the top of the graduate school mountain, but there in a kindergarten classroom!

I teach full day Kindergarten at a high poverty school in Nevada.

All students receive free breakfast and lunch and, unfortunately, lack some of life's most basic necessities. The majority of students who attend my school are English Language Learners and speak little to no English when first entering Kindergarten. Even though these students face many challenges they are very kind, caring, polite, hard working and respectful!

My Project

We are requesting a Read-Along Library. Children can enjoy their favorite stories on their own and gain the confidence they need to become independent readers! The fluency building library includes 16 read-along kits, each with a different book and a CD that narrates the entire story. We are also requesting a set of 4 Multicultural Stories, which will help students build self-esteem and develop their understanding of others. Lastly, we could like a set of 4 Building Self-Esteem Stories and 4 stories about school.

Your help will ensure that my students have fun experiences with stories to enhance their early reading skills.

The books and CDs that I am requesting will enrich the learning for the students in my class. Best of all these materials will be used for many years, so your contribution will have a far-reaching impact on the students in my school and community.
