I teach 5th grade at one of the highest performing K-8 charter schools. Approximately 70% of students' families receive public assistance and/or qualify for free and reduced meals at school.
My students are eager and excited about their education but are often frustrated with limited access to much needed, interesting reading material. I inherited a former 4th grade room so right now my classroom has loads of 4th grade level books, but we are lacking enough 5th grade level books.
I need books for my students to read based on their interest level. The kids would really appreciate it and it would be a great beginning to building a library in my classroom. I am requesting various books at the 5th grade reading level, some box sets, some individual books.
You can be a part of a paradigm shift in my classroom. Students will be able to borrow books to take home with them and spend time reading rather than watching TV once at home. They will be able to connect with the stories in the novels, understanding that they are not just individuals with singular problems but part of a world in which we all struggle and will all overcome.
