Students in my classroom have all been educationally diagnosed with autism. These students benefit from having a self-contained, highly structured setting that involves hands-on learning as well as intense direct instruction.
My students are loving and incredibly talented in so many ways, however they struggle learning in the traditional classroom setting and need small group instruction to learn academics and social skills.
My students follow our districts very high expectations that are aligned with the national Common Core standards, which can be difficult when you are not a pencil/paper kiddo.
My Project
In our classroom we have some early stages readers who are working on their basic phonics and sight words. These students need alternate ways to memorize their sight words rather then using flash cards. The Sight Word Activity Chest, Fishing for Sight Words (and extra poles), and Magnetic Sight Word Board will provide different learning opportunities for these students to master their basic sight words and aid in their reading fluency.
My students are also in need of learning centers for developing their knowledge in phonics. The Instant Learning Centers will allow us to do small group instruction with our young readers. The great thing about these stations are that they are set up for more then one student so we will be able to work on a skill with up to 4 students at a time. With these stations we will be able to continue working on phonics, reading comprehension, and some capitalization and punctuation.
Our hope is these resources will help aid our students in their journey to being mainstreamed into the general education setting.
As mentioned before, our students don't always learn best with paper and pencil. We need materials to teach in a variety of ways, so please help our class. We appreciate your assistance in educating our students!
